19 Sep Cozy Fall Cooking: Butternut & Turban Squash Recipes with a Chicago Twist
When the crisp fall air rolls into Chicagoland, nothing says comfort quite like a warm dish made with fresh, local squash. At Barn Owl Garden Center, we love celebrating the season with produce that’s both beautiful and delicious, like butternut and turban (sometimes called buttercup) squash.
Both are versatile, hearty, and packed with nutrients. Even better, they shine in recipes that reflect our Midwest roots, from cozy weeknight dinners to crowd-pleasing dishes that will impress at any fall gathering.
Why Butternut & Turban Squash?
Butternut squash is naturally sweet and creamy, perfect for soups, risottos, and roasting.
Turban squash (with its unique “turban” cap) has a slightly nutty flavor and can be used in savory or sweet recipes.
Both varieties are locally grown, easy to find at Chicago-area farmers’ markets, and right here at The Market at Barn Owl Garden Center.
